Still in the starting block …

Believe it or not, I began this effort in mid-2014, and this is basically only my second post. So this website, or blog, has remained essentially static since that first post in July 2014.
OK, that’s not strictly true. I’ve revised the first post a few times. More importantly, I’ve added a couple of pages as I develop a better idea of what I want this material to represent. The environment is a challenge: I’m using a blogging platform to create a website, which I think of as a series of pages. While I love to write, and I like to think about a lot of things, I’m not really interested in having a blog as such. I’m less interested in writing about what I think than I am in having a space to represent the work I do. My emphasis is on showing artifacts from my search for meaning and relevance.
In any case, moving to the online environment has been a challenge. I am still in the book world. My significant efforts over the years have been to write and develop, or help write and develop, printed material, the stuff of government. Desktop publishing.
So this effort has languished since my first post. I’m learning WordPress. I’m looking at templates, and more than anything else I’m frustrated because I can’t seem to find a template that gives me the freedom that used to be provided by the best desktop publishing programs. This was before Microsoft Word became the dominant publishing platform, back when writing a document and formatting it were two distinctly different efforts. Word is powerful, but balky.
Anyway … WordPress; templates; and deciding on a good gallery plug-in.
Oh, and by the way, trying to continue Courting the Muse, and photographing the work, and so on.
As you can see, I’m working on it.
The progress I can claim is the structure of the site: Paintings, Drawings, Photographs, Links, and (for those who don’t get enough online already) Holding Forth: a place where I can craft my thinking for your dubious pleasure.
It’s a work in progress! Enough of this, I have to go back again to find a better template.
